Celebratin'

Tonight Eric and I celebrated my getting into pharmacy school. Remember the posting last year of when Eric got into RVU and his celebratory dinner... well now it's my turn!

Who knows who will stalk our blog this time ahh hem... Westin!

Now it's my turn to buy new clothes, books, a laptop and to get all excited! Whoa hoa!

We went to our favorite Korean restaurant, Seoul BBQ in Aurora. Yum, yum, yum.

Eric burnt his tongue eating raw garlic. It was bad.

Bad Morning

Eric had a rough day last Wednesday. First off, his car wouldn't start. And after trying to start it and manually pulling it out of the garage, we couldn't find our jumper cables?! Who doesn't have jumper cables in their car?? We thought we did. But as we went knocking on our neighbors doors, no one else did either. Finally, 10 doors later, we found someone who had them (Emily and Josh). We jump started the car and after about 20 seconds it died again. So we jump started it a second time. This time it stayed running.

By this time Eric was more than an hour late for class. So he was speeding off to school. And of course a cop pulled him over and gave him a hefty $200 ticket. That is what we call a bad morning.

Daddy-Daughter Date

Last night my Dad and I had a daddy-daughter date to the ballet! It was a blast. We saw Beauty and the Beast at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House inside the Denver Performing Arts Complex.

The ballet was great and I had such a fun time going with my Dad. We both LOVE the fine arts and it was fun to go with someone who also loves the ballet. The complex was HUGE, right in the heart of downtown. And for anyone who knows me I LOVE downtown areas.
I haven't been to a fine arts performance in Denver for a long time, since I've been living in Utah for the past 5 years, so this was really refreshing.

I forgot how fancy it was at the opera house. My dad and I were dressed nicely, but so many people were in cocktail dresses and suits sipping on their fine wine.

The only bad thing about the night was the Korean family sitting in the row in front of us. They had the worst Kimchi breath and I could smell it all night! Peee yew!

PharmD

After 2 1/2 weeks of waiting, thinking I was not getting into CU's School of Pharmacy, I found out Thursday morning that I was ACCEPTED!

I was sitting down to breakfast in front of the computer, reading the news and opening my email that I didn't check from the day before. As I scanned down the new emails one caught my eye. "Acceptance to the University of Colorado School of Pharmacy." I'm sure anyone who read that would have thought, "Cool! I got in!" But I actually thought I didn't get in. I was reading from last years 'Student Doctor Network' forum for CU that everyone found out via a big white envelope in the mail. So by getting an email I thought I was rejected.

As I opened the email and read the first couple of sentences (probably 3 times just to make sure I read it right) I started screaming and jumping with excitement. I scarred Ella who probably thought I was just possessed by an evil spirit.

My first call went to Eric, of course, who had just left for school. Fortunately he answered his phone but couldn't understand me one bit. There was a mixture of celebratory screaming and crying coming from my end, which worried Eric. He thought something happened to Ella- maybe she was hit by a car and I was screaming about it. But after 3 times of repeating myself he finally understood and was soooo happy. He's such a good hubby- he makes me feels so special and celebrates my accomplishments like they were his own.

I then tried calling everyone in my family but no one was answering! I did get in contact with my good friend Jenny who helped me so much in preparing for the interview. She's one of the greatest people I know and I look up to her so much. I love having great friends who make you feel so good. Thanks Jenny!

I then had fun telling my coworkers and now I get to become a Pharmacy Intern!

Shame on the box

Tonight I made dinner...from boxes. It was pretty gross.

I've been studying all day and doing grocery shopping. But I wanted a home cooked meal, instead of you know, cereal. So I thought of the theme: Thanksgiving.

I made turkey, from a tightly sealed, already cooked, package deal.
I made stuffing, from a box.
I made mashed potatoes, from a box.
I made gravy, from a packet.
And then I heated up some green beans, from a can.

Every single thing was non-perishable. It made me disgusted. But I was in a hurry to get back to studying and so this is what was available to me. Sighhhhhh. My poor husband has to suffer through me not cooking, and then when I do cook (aka heating up contents from a box) he still has to suffer.

Did I say cooking was a New Years Resolution for me???

Catch-up

I'm a slacker when it comes to this blog. I'm actually a slacker at a lot of things... like cooking, laundry, general house maintenance, that's why all of these things are on my New Year's Resolutions list. I've started out poorly, but hey I have a whole year!

So I'm just going to post pictures for now:
Eric's and my 2nd anniversary- dinner and ice skating at the Southlands mall area. Eric surprised me with a wedding band that I've been wanting for 2 years now.

And I still fit into my wedding dress 2 years later :)

Two great friends and their cutie babies

Me on my 24th birthday

Ken our contractor decided to be a complete flake and stopped working on our condo randomly. He just had to put in door handles and finish the master bathtub, but I guess that was too much for him. So Eric's awesome dad drove out to Colorado from Utah and finished everything for us! We are so lucky.

Interview at CU

Today was my School of Pharmacy at the University of Colorado's Anshutz Medical Campus.

If I can sum it up in three words it would be: It was looooong.

I was there from 11:30am to 5pm- with no food. During my interview my stomach was growling. I had to leave my home at 10:30am to commute and be there 15mins early, and so I in no way had time to stuff myself for lunch prior to leaving.

When I left this morning I thought there would be zero traffic because it was 10:30am- way past morning rush hour. As I was getting onto I-225 there was bumper to bumper traffic and I was going under 5mph. I started to panic after 10mins of this, but then all of a sudden, those trucks with the signs that have the arrows pointing for everyone to merge into one lane decided to drive away. Phew.

When I got to campus we were given a tour of the huge medical campus which is VERY impressive. There were 2 hospitals, skyscraper research buildings, lots of technology and building construction for more, more, more.

After the interview we had a written exam, financial aid meeting and an overview of the school. Then came the interviews. Mine was a little hairy because they asked such weird questions- like: describe a situation where you dealt with a difficult situation using data and analysis. WTHeck? Another question was: describe a difficult situation in school/work/volunteering where you had to make a decision using morals/ethics. I had a hard time thinking of answers because I've had very minimal experiences where I've had a difficult decision that even needed resolution with morals/ethics.

And then lastly we had a group activity where our group was the pharmacy committee designated to come up with the 10 values we wanted for our company. I took a leadership role and I think this part went really well.

I really really really hope to get, but kind of have an iffey feeling about this one. When I interviewed at Regis and Temple University last year I had an absolute, "I'm getting into this university because I aced the interview feeling." But today I just feel that I hope I get in based off of that interview. Sighhhh.
